h. Insulation fallen/reversed:
Batt or blanket type insulation between joists and around ductwork frequently becomes loose and is ineffective. Vapor barriers on crawl space insulation should generally be facing upward toward the warmer floor surface.
What to: How to:
If insulation has fallen and it is dry, it should be reinstalled and held securely in place with spring wire, staples, or tape. Vapor barriers, which face in the wrong direction can be perforated or slashed to negate the barrier function. The best approach may be to remove the insulation and reinstall it properly. |
