The Correspondence Course is comprised of more than 30 different training items. Each item is intended to provide a nessary component of the home inspectors' knowledge base requirement.
Those Students who are completely new to the profession of home inspection should take the entire course of study to assure themselves that they have been exposed to this core of the required knowledge.
Many Students have background knowledge in particular fields that may be greater than the information included within one or more of the items in this course. When you consider yourself to be expert on a topic, and that topic is covered in an item included in the course of study, you may not wish to include the item as a part of your coursework. WE AGREE! For that reason, the course can be taken by selecting the items that are needed and omitting the items that are not. Those Students wishing to obtain a Certificate of Graduation in this course must pass all tests/quizzes included in the course. Should you omit items from the coursework, you may take a test (commonly known as a challenge exam) to obtain credit for that item.
The entire course of study has been evaluated to contain 307 EUs (Educational Units). These "EUs" are equivalent to CEUs (Continuing Education Units), MRCs, etc. as are required by governments, liscenses, Professional Trade Associations, and the like. At this time, 307 EUs is more than the required amount necessary to become licensed or accepted to a professional association. On the other hand, many States/Provinces have established guidelines/requirements that include passing certain exams and obtaining further apprenticeship style training in order to become licensed with their jurisdiction. Some States will not accept correspondence courses. For this reason, PHII would like you to review those requirements PRIOR to enrolling in any course of study. General regulatory information is available on this website. Be assured that you will find training that is appropriate to your needs on this website.
For those students that will need to pass the "National Home Inspector
Examination" (NHIE) in order to become licensed, we provide access to further
resources to assist you in being fully prepared.
PHII maintains the largest and most diverse
collection of "real world" examples of building and system components dedicated
to home inspection training. All of these thousands of items are available to
you in our "hands on" laboratory. The purpose and function of the items, as well as
how to inspect them, can be learned in a matter of moments. Our home inspection
Laboratory is a "fast track" to understanding that is FREE to PHII Students that are enrolled in a full course of study.
